Robes if you want the classic getting-ready photo and the lowest cost per person. Pyjamas if your bridesmaids will actually wear them again. Both work; here's how to decide.

Robes vs pyjamas: the quick comparison

Price. A satin bridesmaid robe like the Jasmine Short Robe starts around $70, and the Luna Robe around $80. A short pyjama set like the Grace Short Pyjama Set is around $100, and a long set around $130. Bundle four or more matching robes, slips or sleepwear sets and you get 15% off.

Sizing across a group. Robes are forgiving. One robe in a size M fits most people from a 10 to a 14 because it wraps. Pyjamas are cut to the body, so you'll need each bridesmaid's real size. If you don't want to ask, robes are the safer buy.

Photos. Robes give you the flowing, "everyone in a row" shot. Pyjamas give a cosier, more candid look and cover more, which some bridesmaids prefer.

Warmth. Pyjamas win for winter weddings and early starts. Robes win for Queensland summers.

Reuse. Pyjamas get worn again. Robes get worn again if they're a colour the person would choose for themselves, which is why I'd avoid novelty colours.

Which one do most brides choose?

Robes for parties of five or more, pyjamas for smaller groups where the bride knows everyone's size. Mixed parties, robe for the bride and pyjamas for everyone else, photograph well too.

Fabric notes

Our satin robes and pyjamas are 100% polyester satin, OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified, and machine washable on cold. That matters when eight of them come home in a heap after the wedding.

How to order for a group

Put everything in one order so it arrives together, choose the embroidery once so it's consistent, and order early enough to swap a size. Free standard shipping Australia-wide on orders over $250 AUD ($10 under that), express is $25, and most Australian orders arrive in 1–4 business days, 5–10 for remote areas. Allow an extra 2 business days over the Christmas period.

Quick answers

Should bridesmaid robes be short or long?

Short for daytime and summer, long for winter and formal photos. Short is also cheaper and easier to size.

Who pays for bridesmaid robes?

Traditionally the bride, as a gift. Some parties split the cost. There's no rule.

Can I mix robes and pyjamas?

Yes. Keep the colour the same and it still reads as a set. Note the 15% bundle applies to four or more matching pieces, so a straight set of robes or a straight set of pyjamas is the way to get it.
