Tell us a bit about yourself and your experience of being a curve model.
I started in the industry about four years ago. The curve division was still quiet in Australia but rapidly growing overseas. A friend introduced me to an agent that was looking for a curve model in Brisbane. My first job is still one of my favourite experiences. I was the only curved model booked for a Westfield Runway Show with about 10 others. After the show, a group of women came to me and said how inspiring it was to see a model showcase current fashion trends that would suit their body shape. I immediately fell in love and it’s why I want to continue to push the boundaries and grow the curve industry. It’s so empowering for women to feel comfortable and confident in their own skin.
What led to the transition between modelling and becoming a freelance make-up artist?
I was lucky, it was an easy transition for me. I have always loved makeup and keeping up with the current trends and products, but it was the amazing makeup artists I worked with day-to-day that really inspired me to follow my passion. I started assisting them on magazine shoots and that lead to working with international brands. Asking questions and being proactive, I was able to learn from their many years of experience and develop my own techniques. I always recommend to aspiring makeup artists, get in contact with some of your idols, and take every opportunity that comes your way. There is so much you can learn from just being in the environment.
What advice can you provide women when it comes to fashion?
My advice and how I style myself is always; create some mystery. Looking and feeling truly sexy involves knowing what to bare and what to keep under wraps. Choose only one body part and show it off. If it's cleavage, don't show your legs and if it's your legs, stay covered on top. Confidence is always key and never leave home without it! When it comes to fashion, if you feel comfortable, you will be confident… and little lingerie never hurt either!
What item can't you live without?
Is Google an answer?... Definitely can’t live with out my coffee machine.
How would you describe your morning ritual?
I am usually woken by my alarm and I start my day with a tall glass of water plus a few minutes of stretching. There's always time for my morning coffee then straight on the road to a photo shoot. On my days off, I like to start the day with a long walk and breakfast at my favourite cafe. Then of course it’s straight onto work emails and social media.
How would you describe your bedtime ritual?
I triple check my diary and make sure I have all information ready for tomorrow’s job/s, pack my model bag or makeup kit depending on the brief sent. Have a cup of hot tea, a facemask to keep my skin hydrated, and it’s off to bed. Usually it is an early night as I like to get eight hours sleep ready for an early start.
What is your favourite thing about being at home?
Home cooking, I travel a lot so when I’m home I love to be creating something in the kitchen.
What book are you currently reading?
The Book Thief, my mother passed it onto me recently. I have a love of modern history; if you haven’t read it, I recommend it.
Which homebodii garment best suits your personality?
How can you choose just one? The Elizabeth Long Lace Robe. It's the old world Hollywood glamour that describes my personality perfectly without words! The lace detail, the length and the way it makes me feel when I wear it... It's a luxury everywoman deserves in her closet.
